Liklyaradars

Liklyaradars are a type of Norwegian traditional vessel, also known as a liklyrad or liklyrader. These small, open boats were commonly used for fishing and transportation in Norway, particularly in the western and northern regions. The name "Liklyaradars" is derived from the Norwegian words "liklyr" meaning sail and "radar" meaning rowing or propelling.

Traditionally, a liklyaradars was equipped with a single mast and a sail, often accompanied by a pair of oars. The design of the boat typically featured a flat bottom and a narrow hull, with (in most cases) a sharp bow (cutwater) in the front, facilitating shallow draft and making it possible to operate in the coastal waters and fjords of Norway.

As well as being used for commercial fishing, liklyaradars were also used by individuals for private fishing and transportation. The boats were typically around 5-6 meters in length, with some examples extending to around 8 meters. Wooden construction was typically used, and the boats were often custom-made for specific users.

Synonymous with traditional Norwegian vessels like the leikhyra and the pramcarvel, the liklyaradars played an essential role in Norway's maritime history. In modern times, some liklyaradars have been preserved and restored, with many being displayed in museums and taking part in maritime events.
