Lidocaingele

Lidocaingele is a topical gel formulation that contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic of the amide class. It is designed to provide temporary numbness by delivering lidocaine directly to a targeted area of skin or mucous membrane.

The active ingredient works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve membranes, which reduces the initiation and propagation of nerve impulses. This pharmacological action lowers the sensation of pain in the treated region. Lidocaingele is typically used before minor medical, dental, or cosmetic procedures to lessen discomfort, and may also be used for short-term relief of localized pain or itching in certain dermatological conditions.

Formulation and use vary by product, but lidocaine in gel form is commonly available in concentrations ranging from about 2% to 5%. The gel is applied to intact skin or mucous membranes as directed, with onset of numbness usually occurring within minutes and duration depending on concentration, amount applied, and site of use. It should not be applied to large areas or on broken skin without medical guidance, and it should be kept away from eyes and swallowed. Repeated or extensive use can increase systemic absorption.
