LiDARista

LiDARista is a term used informally within the geospatial and surveying industries to refer to a professional who specializes in the acquisition, processing, and analysis of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data. This role encompasses a broad range of skills, from operating LiDAR scanners on various platforms such as drones, aircraft, and ground vehicles, to managing the resulting point cloud data. The responsibilities of a LiDARista often include planning LiDAR surveys to meet specific project requirements, calibrating equipment, and ensuring data quality during collection. Post-processing is a critical aspect of their work, involving noise reduction, georeferencing, classification of point clouds into categories like ground, vegetation, buildings, and water, and the generation of derived products such as Digital Surface Models (DSM), Digital Terrain Models (DTM), and 3D building models. They are proficient in using specialized software for point cloud manipulation and analysis.

LiDARistas work across various sectors, including urban planning, forestry, environmental monitoring, infrastructure management, archaeology, and autonomous vehicle development.
