Leviafan
Leviafan is a genus of fossil cetaceans that lived during the late Miocene epoch, approximately 12 to 13 million years ago. The name "Leviafan" is derived from Leviathan, a biblical sea monster, and refers to the immense size of these ancient whales. The type species, Leviafan melvillei, was discovered in the ancient coastal sediments of the Eastern Desert of Peru.
Fossils of Leviafan indicate it was a massive predatory sperm whale, comparable in size to modern-day sperm
The discovery of Leviafan melvillei has provided significant insights into the predatory capabilities and ecological role
