Leveringstap

Leveringstap (literally “delivery step”) is a concept used in Dutch-language business discourse to denote a defined handover moment inside a process. At a leveringstap, a deliverable, such as a product, a service, or a piece of information, is transferred from one party or from one process stage to the next. The moment may coincide with transfer of ownership or risk, or it may be defined independently in contracts or internal procedures. The key idea is that acceptance, responsibility, and documentation are explicit at the point of transfer. The term is primarily used in Dutch-language contexts and is often translated as “delivery step” or “handover step.”

In logistics and supply chain management, leveringstap commonly refers to the handover of goods, for example from supplier to customer or from production to distribution. It is typically governed by contractual terms and evidenced by documents like delivery notes, packing lists, and proof of delivery. In project management and service delivery, leveringstap marks the formal acceptance of deliverables by a customer or operations team, with agreed criteria for acceptance.

Important characteristics include clearly defined ownership, explicit acceptance criteria, and an auditable record of the handover. Measurements often track on-time delivery, handover duration, and defect or non-conformance rates.
