Letkut

Letkut is a fictional village in the country of Veridia, created for geographic case studies and planning exercises. It lies in the Veridian Lowlands along the Letka River, about 25 kilometers from the regional capital. The surrounding area is a mix of farmland and deciduous woodland; the climate is temperate with mild summers and cold winters.

History of Letkut traces to the 13th century, when agrarian communities settled the area and established a parish church in 1320. The arrival of a railway branch in 1874 spurred modest population growth and the development of local services. In the 20th century, administrative reforms integrated Letkut into Veridia’s municipal system, shaping its current governance framework.

The local economy centers on agriculture—grain, dairy, and specialty crops—supplemented by timber processing and small-scale manufacturing. A portion of residents commute to nearby towns for work, while regional roads and a short railway spur connect Letkut to larger urban centers. The village also maintains a riverside park and pedestrian paths along the Letka.

Governance in Letkut is conducted by a nine-member municipal council within Veridia’s district framework. The population is approximately 2,800 to 3,000 residents, characterized by an aging demographic and steady but moderate growth.

Culture and landmarks play a notable role in village life. The annual harvest festival and a biannual craft market are central events. Landmarks include the 18th-century Letkut Church, the old river mill, and the riverside park. Education is provided by one primary school and a shared secondary campus located in a neighboring town.
