Leserichtung
Leserichtung, or reading direction, refers to the sequence in which textual information is typically processed by readers. It determines the orientation of the page and the flow of individual characters, words, and sentences. In most Western languages, such as English, German, and French, the Leserichtung is left‑to‑right, with lines arranged from top to bottom. This convention evolved historically from the use of parchment and early writing implements, which were more comfortable to stroke in that direction. In contrast, many Semitic languages, including Arabic and Hebrew, use a right‑to‑left reading system, while classical scripts such as Latin and Greek also read left‑to‑right.
Other writing systems employ a vertical Leserichtung. Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean texts are often presented
