Lentoemäntä

Lentoemäntä is the Finnish term for a flight attendant. The word is a compound of "lento" meaning flight and "emäntä" meaning hostess or mistress. A lentoemäntä is a member of the cabin crew responsible for the safety and comfort of passengers during commercial flights. Their duties include conducting safety demonstrations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, assisting passengers with their needs, and providing service such as meals and beverages. The term is gender-specific, referring specifically to a female flight attendant. The male equivalent is "lentoisäntä," though the more gender-neutral term "matkustamohenkilökunta" (cabin crew) is also used. Historically, the role of the lentoemäntä was often associated with a more service-oriented aspect, but the primary focus remains passenger safety.
