Leitschnur

Leitschnur is a rope or cord used as a guide or reference line in various fields. It serves as a visible and tactile cue to indicate a route, boundary, or alignment, enabling safe navigation, positioning, or transfer of measurements.

Material and design: Leitschnur are typically made from synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester for strength and weather resistance. They are commonly bright in color to improve visibility and may include scale markings, segments, or protective coatings. The line is designed to withstand tension and abrasion and is often equipped with hardware for anchoring, tying, or tethering.

Applications: In mountaineering and outdoor work, a Leitschnur may be laid along a route to guide movement or serve as a handline across exposed sections. In surveying and construction, it marks baselines or alignment points and aids the transfer of plan measurements to the ground. In safety-critical operations such as rescue, firefighting, and industrial work, a guide line helps personnel follow a defined path in low visibility or hazardous conditions and can function as a tether when used with anchors.
