Leikkausyvyys, a Finnish term that translates to "cutting depth" or "depth of cut," refers to the distance a cutting tool penetrates into a workpiece during machining operations. This parameter is crucial in determining the efficiency, surface finish, and tool life of the cutting process. A proper leikkausyvyys balances material removal rate with the forces exerted on the tool and workpiece. Increasing the leikkausyvyys generally leads to a higher material removal rate, meaning more material can be processed in a given time.
