Lehtipuumetsien
Lehtipuumetsien, meaning deciduous forests, are a common forest type in temperate regions characterized by broadleaf species that shed their leaves seasonally. They occur in Europe, North America, and parts of Asia, at low to mid elevations, in climates with distinct seasons and adequate rainfall. The canopy is typically made up of oaks, beeches, maples, birches, and other broadleaf species, with an understory of shrubs and herbaceous plants. Leaf litter contributes to nutrient cycling and soil formation, and these forests support diverse flora and fauna, including mammals such as deer and foxes, numerous bird species, insects, and fungi. Phenology is pronounced in spring leaf-out and autumn color change.
In terms of ecology, these forests display high biodiversity, complex structure, and resilience, but are sensitive
