Leamh

Leamh is a fictional village and civil parish in the northern province of Eldoria. It sits along the Leamh River at the southern edge of the Leamh Forest. The toponym is said to derive from the Eldorian word leamh, meaning elm, a reference to the local stands of elm trees.

The village occupies a low-lying valley with a temperate climate. It had a population of about 1,200 in 2022. The surrounding area is mixed farmland and woodland, with dairy pastures, cereals, and small timber operations. Transportation is provided by a regional road network and a nearby rural railway line accessible at the Northshore Junction.

The earliest records of Leamh date to the 13th century, when a manor and chapel are listed in medieval surveys. The 18th and 19th centuries saw growth in forestry and peat extraction, followed by diversification into light manufacturing and services in the 20th century. Today it remains largely agricultural with a modest service sector.

Leamh is governed by a parish council within the Northshore district. The local economy centers on dairy farming, crop production, timber, and crafts, supported by a weekly market and several family-owned businesses.

Culturally, the village hosts an annual Elm Festival in early autumn, celebrating trees and woodcraft. Notable landmarks include St. Brigid’s Chapel (circa 1649), the Leamh Bridge over the river, and the Leamh Orchard, a conserved woodland area. The community is known for woodcarving and traditional folk music, reflecting the region’s historic association with timber and craft.
