Lavapresentaatio, also known as lava presentation or lava flow, is a geological phenomenon characterized by the slow, steady movement of molten rock or lava from a volcanic vent or fissure. This process is a key component of volcanic activity and is responsible for the creation of various volcanic landforms. Lava can flow in different ways, depending on its viscosity and the slope of the terrain. Highly viscous lava, such as andesite or rhyolite, tends to form steep-sided domes or coulees, while less viscous lava, like basalt, can create broad, gently sloping flows known as pahoehoe or aa. The temperature of lava typically ranges from 700 to 1,200 degrees Celsius, making it extremely hot and capable of causing significant damage to structures and vegetation in its path. Lavapresentaatio can also release toxic gases and volcanic ash, posing additional hazards to both human populations and the environment.
