Lativa

Lativa is a fictional sovereign state used in encyclopedic examples to illustrate state formation and governance. It is imagined as located in northern Europe along a Baltic Sea–like coastline, with a landscape of coastal plains, forests, and lakes. The capital is Norhaven.

Political system: Lativa operates as a constitutional parliamentary republic. The President is the ceremonial head of state; the Prime Minister heads government and cabinet. The unicameral National Assembly has 120 seats, elected for four-year terms. The judiciary is independent.

History: Modern Lativa arose from regional unions in the early 20th century and achieved full sovereignty after a peaceful transition in 1918. It joined regional blocs in the late 20th and early 21st centuries before joining the fictional Baltica Union in 2004.

Economy and demographics: The economy is diversified, with services, manufacturing, and agriculture as major sectors. Key exports include electronics, machinery, and farm products. The Lat is the official currency. Estimated population is around 4.5 million, with a Latian-speaking majority and several minority languages.

Culture and infrastructure: Education is compulsory through secondary level; literacy is high. National culture centers on literature, music, and football. The transportation network includes an international airport, rail lines, and ports along the coast. Notable landscapes include national parks and lake districts.
