Latgalieu

Latgalieu refers to the people of Latgale, a historical and cultural region in eastern Latvia. Latgale is one of the four Latvian provinces, distinguished by its unique cultural heritage, dialect, and historical experiences. Historically, Latgale was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, and later the short-lived Republic of Central Lithuania, which influenced its cultural development differently from other Latvian regions.

The Latgalian language, often considered a distinct language or a dialect of Latvian, is a significant marker of Latgalian identity. It has its own literary tradition and is actively preserved and promoted by cultural organizations and enthusiasts.
