Latausliitäntästandardit refers to the various specifications and protocols that govern how electric vehicles (EVs) connect to charging stations for recharging their batteries. These standards are crucial for ensuring interoperability, safety, and efficiency in the EV charging process. Different regions and manufacturers have developed their own standards over time, leading to a landscape with several dominant protocols.

In North America and many other parts of the world, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has established standards such as SAE J1772, which is the common connector for AC charging. For DC fast charging, SAE J1772 also defines the communication protocol, but the physical connector can vary. The CCS (Combined Charging System), which combines J1772 with additional pins for DC charging, is widely adopted.

In Europe, the Mennekes connector, standardized as IEC 62196 Type 2, is the dominant standard for both AC and DC charging, often referred to as CCS Type 2 when used with DC charging pins. This standard is also gaining traction in other regions.

Asia, particularly China, has its own national standard, GB/T, which dictates the design of charging connectors and communication protocols. While these regional standards ensure compatibility within their respective markets, the increasing globalization of the EV industry has led to discussions and efforts towards greater standardization and harmonization of charging interfaces worldwide to simplify the charging experience for EV owners. These standards also encompass aspects like power delivery levels, communication methods between the vehicle and the charger, and safety features to prevent electrical hazards.
