Laplikungle

Laplikungle is a tropical rainforest region in the fictional nation of Veridia on the continent of Eldara. The name is derived from two local terms, with Lapli meaning 'river' and Kungle meaning 'jungle,' reflecting the region's river networks and forest cover.

The region spans roughly 28,000 square kilometers, comprising lowland rainforest, seasonally flooded forests, and foothill terrain rising to about 1,800 meters. The climate is humid tropical with two wet seasons. The area hosts high biodiversity, including certain endemic amphibians, birds, and mammals; notable examples include the Lapli treefrog and the Veridian jungle cat. Ancient tree species, some reaching great ages, characterize the old-growth zones.

Laplikungle has been inhabited by diverse communities for centuries. The principal groups include the Kiyari, Nara, and Miva peoples, who maintain river-based livelihoods, extensive trade networks, and rich oral traditions. External contact increased during the colonial and post-colonial eras, leading to changes in governance and land use. Today, indigenous communities participate in local and national governance through recognized land rights and consultation mechanisms.

The economy combines subsistence farming, non-timber forest products, ecotourism, and sustainable forestry. Craft traditions such as weaving, wood carving, and metalwork are valued, and river-based ceremonies and music remain central to community life. Multilingualism is common, with several languages spoken alongside a Veridian lingua franca.

Deforestation pressures, illegal logging, and mining pose challenges to Laplikungle's ecosystems and livelihoods. Protected areas and community-managed forests balance conservation with development, supported by research institutions and international partnerships focused on biodiversity monitoring, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
