Lapios is a coastal city and the administrative capital of the fictional nation of Elaria, on the western shore of the Lapian Gulf. The city occupies a natural harbor with a mix of medieval streets and modern districts. As of 2024, the population is about 120,000. The urban core centers on the Old Quarter, with newer districts expanding outward.

History: Lapios traces its origins to the 11th century, when seafaring guilds founded a trading post at the harbor. It grew as a regional hub for shipbuilding, salt production, and maritime commerce. An earthquake in 1680 prompted rebuilding, and in the 19th century Lapios became the provincial capital within Elaria.

Economy: The port remains central, handling container traffic and ferries. Fishing and seafood processing are important, with light manufacturing and logistics also contributing. Tourism supports the historic core and waterfront districts.

Governance: It is governed by a mayor and unicameral council, with eight districts. Policy focuses on port efficiency, urban renewal, and environmental sustainability.

Culture and landmarks: Lapios is known for the annual Festival of Lanterns and a maritime museum. Notable sites include the Old Fortress, the Lighthouse of Nereus, Market Square, and the City Museum. The local cuisine emphasizes seafood, citrus, and regional wines.

Education: It hosts a university center, including Lapios University of Technology and several polytechnic institutes. The population is multilingual, with Elarian as the official language and English common in business.
