Lankaran

Lankaran is a city and the administrative center of Lankaran District in Azerbaijan. It is situated on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, near the Iranian border, and lies at the foothills of the Talysh mountains. The city experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by warm summers and mild, wet winters, influenced by its maritime location and nearby forests.

Historically, the area has been inhabited since ancient times and played a role in the regional khanates of the 18th and 19th centuries. Lankaran later came under Russian suzerainty and became part of the Russian Empire, shaping its development within the Soviet and post-Soviet eras. remnants of fortifications and the former Khan’s residence reflect the city’s historical trajectory and its role as a regional center.
