Lampuiksi

Lampuiksi is a coastal town and municipality in the fictional nation of Taruma, situated on the Taruman Peninsula along the southern coast. It functions as a local hub for fishing, small-scale crafts, and light industry, with a population of about 5,800 as of 2022 and an area of roughly 42 square kilometers.

The name Lampuiksi derives from the Lampu language, where lampu means lamp and the suffix -iksi marks place or collection.

The settlement formed in the 16th century as a fishing hamlet and gradually expanded through harbor trade. Lantern-making and ship provisioning were traditional crafts, shaping the town’s economy in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Lampuiksi Lighthouse, opened in 1889, remains a regional landmark.

The town sits on a gentle coastal plain with a nearby river, hedged by low hills to the north. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and moderate summers.

The economy today centers on fishing, boat-building, aquaculture, and tourism. Cultural events include the annual Lantern Festival in June and a weekly farmers’ market. A local dialect of Taruman is spoken in daily life and traditional songs.

Lampuiksi is governed by a mayor and a town council within Taruma’s municipal framework.
