Lagercentralisering, or warehouse centralization, is a logistics strategy where a company consolidates its inventory from multiple smaller warehouses into a single, larger, or fewer central facilities. The primary goal is to streamline operations, reduce overall inventory holding costs, and improve efficiency in the supply chain. By having fewer locations to manage, companies can benefit from economies of scale in areas such as labor, storage space, and technology investments.

This approach often leads to reduced overhead costs related to rent, utilities, and staffing across multiple sites. It can also simplify inventory management by providing a clearer, unified view of stock levels, which in turn can reduce the need for safety stock and minimize the risk of stockouts or overstocking. Furthermore, a centralized warehouse can often accommodate more advanced automation and technology, leading to faster order fulfillment and improved accuracy.

However, lagercentralisering also presents challenges. A significant drawback is the potential increase in transportation costs, as goods may need to travel longer distances to reach their final destinations. This can also extend delivery lead times for customers located far from the central facility. The reliance on a single or few locations makes the supply chain more vulnerable to disruptions, such as natural disasters, labor strikes, or transportation issues, which could halt operations entirely.
