Laevaplatvormid

Laevaplatvormid, also known as floating docks or shipyards, are structures designed for the construction, repair, and maintenance of ships and other maritime vessels. They are essentially large, submerged or partially submerged platforms that can be raised to the surface to bring a vessel out of the water.

There are several types of laevaplatvormid. The most common are the semi-submersible floating docks, which consist of two submerged pontoons and vertical side walls. The dock is submerged by flooding ballast tanks, and the ship is then towed into the dock. Once the vessel is in position, the ballast tanks are pumped out, raising the dock and the ship with it.

Another type is the dry dock, which is a more permanent structure, often built into the shore. It is a watertight chamber that can be flooded to allow a ship to enter and then emptied to lift the ship for work.
