Laadunvarmistuskäytännöt

Laadunvarmistus (Finnish for quality assurance) refers to a structured set of activities designed to ensure that products and services meet defined quality requirements and satisfy customer expectations. It is a proactive, process-oriented discipline that aims to build quality into the development and production processes rather than testing for defects at the end.

Quality assurance encompasses planning, standardization, process design, training, auditing, and documentation. It differs from quality control, which focuses on identifying defects in finished outputs. QA seeks to prevent defects by improving the quality of the processes used to produce the product.

Common frameworks include quality management systems such as ISO 9001, which specifies requirements for a QMS and emphasizes process approach, continual improvement, and customer focus. In software, QA covers requirements validation, design reviews, test planning, test execution, configuration management, and release procedures, with scope extending to supplier and development lifecycle.

Implementation relies on the PDCA (plan–do–check–act) cycle, risk management, and metrics such as defect density, first-pass yield, process capability (Cpk), and on-time delivery. Organizations implement QA to improve reliability, compliance, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency, though it requires investment in processes and training.

Terminology varies by context; in Finnish settings, laadunvarmistus is sometimes used interchangeably with quality assurance, while laadunvalvonta more often refers to quality control. The field spans manufacturing, services, and software development, adapting to industry-specific standards and practices.
