LaVeyans

LaVeyans are adherents to LaVeyan Satanism, a philosophy and religion founded by Anton LaVey in 1966. LaVeyan Satanism is atheistic, viewing Satan not as a literal deity but as a symbol of individualism, carnal desires, and rejection of traditional spiritual doctrines. The Church of Satan, the primary organization associated with this philosophy, emphasizes self-indulgence, responsibility, and the pursuit of personal gratification within a framework of societal rules.

Key tenets of LaVeyan Satanism include the Nine Satanic Statements, the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth, and the Seven Satanic Sin. These principles advocate for indulgence over abstinence, vital existence over spiritual pipe dreams, and uncompromised vengeance against those who have wronged you. LaVeyans do not worship Satan, nor do they engage in rituals involving animal or human sacrifice. Their rituals are typically psychological or symbolic, aimed at personal empowerment and catharsis.

The philosophy is often described as egoistic, focusing on the individual's needs and desires as paramount. LaVeyan Satanism rejects the concept of sin as defined by Abrahamic religions, instead promoting a pragmatic and earthly perspective on life. While often misunderstood due to its name, LaVeyan Satanism is a distinct ideology that diverges significantly from theistic Satanism or other occult traditions. Its followers are encouraged to be critical thinkers and to question authority, especially religious dogma.
