LCkytkennät is a Finnish term that translates to "LC circuit" in English. An LC circuit, also known as a resonant circuit, tank circuit, or tuned circuit, is an electrical circuit consisting of an inductor (L) and a capacitor (C) connected in series or parallel. This combination of components creates an electrical resonance, meaning it can oscillate at a specific frequency. The natural frequency of an LC circuit is determined by the values of the inductance and capacitance according to the formula f = 1 / (2π√(LC)).

When an LC circuit is excited, for example by a sudden voltage change or an external signal, the energy oscillates between the electric field of the capacitor and the magnetic field of the inductor. This oscillation can be sustained if the circuit has minimal resistance, although in real-world applications, some resistance is always present, leading to damped oscillations.

LC circuits are fundamental building blocks in many electronic applications. They are commonly used in radio tuners to select specific frequencies, in oscillators to generate continuous waveforms, and in filters to pass or block certain frequency ranges. The ability of LC circuits to resonate at a particular frequency makes them indispensable for tuning and frequency selection in various communication and signal processing systems.
