LCDekraani, or Liquid Crystal Display screen, is a type of flat panel display that uses the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals. These crystals do not emit light on their own; instead, they require a backlight or a reflector to produce an image. When an electric current is applied to the liquid crystals, their alignment changes, allowing them to either block or pass light. This manipulation of light is what forms the pixels that create the visible image.

LCD technology has been widely adopted across various electronic devices due to its advantages in terms of low power consumption, thinness, and relatively low cost. Early LCD screens were primarily used in calculators and digital watches. Over time, advancements in technology have led to significantly improved image quality, color reproduction, and response times, making them suitable for complex applications like computer monitors, televisions, and smartphones.

The structure of an LCD screen typically involves several layers. These include a backlight, polarizing filters, a layer of liquid crystals, color filters (for color displays), and a protective glass or plastic surface. The arrangement and control of these layers are crucial for generating sharp and vibrant images. Different types of LCD panels, such as Twisted Nematic (TN), In-Plane Switching (IPS), and Vertical Alignment (VA), offer varying levels of contrast, viewing angles, and color accuracy, catering to different user needs and applications. Despite the rise of newer display technologies, LCD remains a dominant force in the display market.
