LCDLEDskærm

LCDLEDskærm is a display technology that combines Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology with Light Emitting Diode (LED) backlighting. Essentially, it is an LCD panel where the light source behind the pixels is provided by LEDs instead of traditional fluorescent lamps. This distinction is important because while the display itself is still an LCD, the backlighting method significantly impacts its performance characteristics.

The primary advantage of LED backlighting over older CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlighting is improved energy efficiency. LEDs consume less power, leading to lower electricity bills and a reduced environmental footprint. They also tend to have a longer lifespan. Furthermore, LED backlighting allows for thinner and lighter display designs, making devices more portable.

Another benefit of LED backlighting is enhanced picture quality. LEDs can be controlled more precisely, allowing for better contrast ratios and deeper blacks. In some advanced implementations, known as full-array local dimming, individual zones of LEDs can be dimmed or brightened independently, further improving contrast and color accuracy. This results in a more vibrant and lifelike image.

The term LCDLEDskærm is often used interchangeably with "LED TV" or "LED monitor" in consumer markets, though technically the display method remains LCD. The core functionality of arranging pixels to form an image is still handled by the liquid crystals, while the LEDs are solely responsible for illuminating those pixels from behind.
