Lämbumistunne

Lämbumistunne, often translated as a feeling of suffocation or breathlessness, is a subjective sensation that individuals experience when they feel unable to get enough air. This can manifest in various ways, from a tightness in the chest to a desperate need to gasp for air. It is not a medical diagnosis in itself but rather a symptom that can be associated with a wide range of conditions and situations.

Psychological factors frequently contribute to lämbumistunne. Anxiety and panic attacks are common culprits, where rapid, shallow breathing or hyperventilation can lead to the perception of not getting enough oxygen, even when physiologically adequate. Stress and intense emotions can also trigger this sensation.

Physically, lämbumistunne can be a sign of respiratory or cardiovascular problems. Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and pulmonary embolism are among the medical conditions that can cause difficulty breathing and a feeling of suffocation. Heart conditions, such as heart failure or a heart attack, can also lead to breathlessness. Other potential causes include anemia, allergies, and certain medications.

In some instances, lämbumistunne might be related to environmental factors, such as exposure to smoke, pollutants, or very high altitudes. It can also occur during physical exertion when the body's demand for oxygen temporarily outstrips its supply.
