Küüntevoodist

Küüntevoodist refers to a historical method of land measurement used in Estonia. The term literally translates to "nail bed" or "nail row," originating from the practice of using a standardized wooden stake or peg, known as a "küüs" (nail), as a unit of length. This stake was typically around 10 küüntevet (a smaller unit, often translated as "foot") long.

The küüntevoodist system was primarily employed in rural areas for determining land boundaries, calculating the size of fields, and assessing land ownership. It was a practical and relatively accessible method for local communities to manage and record their landholdings before the widespread adoption of more standardized surveying techniques. The exact length of a küüs could vary slightly between regions or over time, but it served as a consistent local measurement.
