Körútvonalon

Körútvonalon refers to a specific type of urban planning concept primarily found in Budapest, Hungary. It denotes a ring road or boulevard system that encircles the inner city, historically designed to connect various districts and facilitate traffic flow. The most prominent example is the Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) and the Outer Ring Road (Nagykörút, or more accurately, a series of connected boulevards and avenues that form an outer ring).

These ring roads were often constructed on the former ramparts of the medieval city, following the outline of the old fortifications. Their development in Budapest began in the late 19th century and continued into the early 20th century, a period of significant urban expansion and modernization. The körútvonalon system was crucial in shaping the city's layout, providing wide avenues lined with impressive architecture, housing, commercial establishments, and public transport lines, particularly tramways.
