Köprünün

Köprünün is a small rural settlement located in the western part of Turkey, within the administrative boundaries of the Afyonkarahisar Province. The village is situated at an elevation of approximately 900 meters above sea level, surrounded by gentle hills and agricultural land that produces cereals, grapes, and olive trees. The name Köprünün, which literally translates as “of the bridge,” reflects the village’s historical association with a modest stone bridge that once spanned a nearby stream and served as an essential crossing for local farmers and traders.

The population of Köprünün has remained relatively stable over the past two decades, with census figures indicating about 350 residents as of the 2021 national registry. Most inhabitants are engaged in subsistence farming, with a growing interest in small-scale tourism to the nearby natural attractions. Local households often maintain traditional Turkish rural lifestyles, preserving communal festivals such as the annual grape harvest celebration known as “Üzüm Hasadı.” Traditional music and dances are commonly performed during these gatherings, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Aegean‑Mediterranean border region.

Although Köprünün lacks major commercial infrastructure, its proximity to the larger town of Sandıklı—located roughly twenty kilometers away—provides access to broader markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. Transportation links consist of a single paved road connecting the village to regional highways and a seasonal bus service that runs on weekdays. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve the local bridge’s structural integrity and to promote eco-friendly tourism, aiming to preserve both the natural environment and the cultural identity of the community.
