Kõrgrõhkkondade

Kõrgrõhkkondade, also known as anticyclones, are large-scale atmospheric regions characterized by high atmospheric pressure at their center. They are the opposite of low-pressure systems, or cyclones. In the Northern Hemisphere, air flows clockwise around a high-pressure center, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it flows counterclockwise. This air circulation is due to the Coriolis effect.

High-pressure systems are typically associated with fair weather. As air descends from higher altitudes within a high-pressure system, it warms and dries, inhibiting cloud formation and precipitation. Consequently, areas under the influence of a kõrgrõhkkond often experience clear skies, sunshine, and stable weather conditions. However, in winter, descending air can lead to fog formation, especially in valleys or near bodies of water.

Kõrgrõhkkondade can vary in size and intensity, from small, temporary systems to large, persistent ones that can dominate weather patterns for weeks. Their movement is influenced by the prevailing winds in the atmosphere. The presence of a strong, stationary high-pressure system can lead to prolonged periods of drought or, conversely, heatwaves if it persists during summer months. Understanding the behavior of these systems is crucial for weather forecasting.
