Kódominancia

Kódominancia is a genetic phenomenon where both alleles of a gene pair are expressed in an organism's phenotype. This contrasts with codominance, where both alleles are expressed, but kódominance refers to the situation where neither allele is fully dominant over the other. Kódominancia is most commonly observed in humans and other mammals, particularly in the ABO blood group system.

In the ABO blood group system, there are three alleles: IA, IB, and i. The IA and IB alleles are codominant, meaning that an individual with one IA and one IB allele will have both A and B antigens on their red blood cells. However, the i allele is kódominant. An individual with one IA or IB allele and one i allele will have only A or B antigens, respectively, but the i allele does not mask the expression of the IA or IB allele.

Kódominancia can also occur in other genetic systems, such as the MN blood group system in humans, where the M and N alleles are kódominant. In this case, an individual with one M and one N allele will have both M and N antigens on their red blood cells.

The study of kódominance is important in genetics and medicine, as it helps to understand the inheritance patterns of certain traits and can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders. However, kódominance can also complicate genetic counseling and prediction, as the phenotype may not always be predictable based on the genotype.
