Käytöllisyys is a Finnish term that translates to "usability" in English. It refers to the ease with which a user can learn, operate, and interact with a product or system to achieve their goals effectively, efficiently, and with satisfaction. In the context of design and technology, usability is a crucial factor in determining the success and adoption of a product.

Good usability means that a product is intuitive, straightforward, and predictable. Users should be able to understand how to use it without extensive training or instruction. This involves aspects such as clear navigation, consistent design elements, and logical workflows. If a product is difficult to use, users are likely to become frustrated, make mistakes, and may abandon the product altogether.

Key components of usability include learnability, efficiency, memorability, error prevention and recovery, and user satisfaction.

Learnability addresses how easily new users can accomplish basic tasks. Efficiency refers to how quickly experienced users can perform tasks. Memorability is about how well users can re-establish proficiency after a period of not using the product. Error prevention and recovery focus on minimizing errors and helping users recover from them. User satisfaction measures how pleasant the experience of using the product is. Ultimately, high usability leads to better user engagement, increased productivity, and a more positive overall experience.
