Käsivaltimotromboosi

Käsivaltimotromboosi refers to the formation of a blood clot within the arteries of the hand. Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body, including the extremities. When a clot forms in these vessels, it can obstruct blood flow, leading to a lack of oxygen and nutrients reaching the tissues.

The symptoms of käsivaltimotromboosi can vary depending on the size and location of the clot. Common signs include sudden onset of pain in the hand, which may be severe and constant. The affected hand might also feel cold to the touch, appear pale or bluish (cyanosis), and experience numbness or tingling sensations. Weakness or inability to move the fingers and wrist can also occur. In some cases, swelling of the hand or arm may be present.

Several factors can contribute to the development of hand artery thrombosis. Atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up inside the arteries, is a common underlying cause, narrowing the vessels and making them more prone to clotting. Trauma to the hand or arm, such as a direct injury or repeated stress, can also damage the artery walls and initiate clot formation. Other potential causes include certain blood clotting disorders, inflammation of the blood vessels (vasculitis), and complications from medical procedures like catheterizations.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and medical history. Imaging techniques such as ultrasound (Doppler ultrasonography), angiography, or CT angiography are often used to visualize the arteries and confirm the presence and extent of the clot. Treatment aims to restore blood flow and prevent further complications. This may include anticoagulant medications to prevent clot enlargement and new clot formation, or thrombolytic therapy to dissolve the existing clot. In some instances, surgical intervention, such as embolectomy (removal of the clot), may be necessary.
