Kyodo

Kyodo News, officially Kyodo News Service, known in Japanese as Kyōdō Tsūshinsha (共同通信社), is a Japanese news agency. It functions as a nonprofit cooperative owned by its member newspapers, radio and television networks, and other media outlets. Kyodo collects, produces, and distributes domestic and international news, photographs, and video to its members and subscribers, and also operates an English-language news service and multimedia products.

Founded in 1945 to unify Japan's postwar press distribution, Kyodo serves as a primary source of daily news for much of the Japanese media landscape. It maintains domestic bureaus and international correspondents, covering politics, economy, society, and culture, as well as weather, sports, and feature reporting.

Kyodo operates in close coordination with its member organizations, who jointly fund and govern the agency. It competes with Jiji Press, another major Japanese news agency, and its output is widely used by newspapers, broadcasters, and online media in Japan and abroad.

Beyond news articles, Kyodo provides photos, video, and data feeds to clients, and publishes English-language summaries to reach international audiences. It is recognized as one of the leading sources of news about Japan and Asia for global media.
