Kylmärekkojen is a Finnish term that translates to "cold reindeer" and refers to a phenomenon observed in the Arctic regions, particularly in Lapland, where reindeer exhibit a specific adaptation to extreme cold. This adaptation is not a single biological feature but rather a combination of physiological and behavioral traits that allow them to survive and thrive in sub-zero temperatures for extended periods.

Physiologically, kylmärekkojen involves several key adaptations. Their thick winter coat is a primary defense, providing excellent insulation. This coat is composed of two layers: a dense undercoat of fine, insulating hairs and a longer outer layer of hollow guard hairs.
