Kvant1
Kvant1 (Kvant-1; Russian: Квант-1) is the designation used in the Soviet space program for a space laboratory module developed to expand the scientific capabilities of the Salyut space stations. The name derives from Kvant, the Russian word for quantum, reflecting its role as a platform for advanced experiments in physics, biology, and materials science. Kvant-1 was designed to be docked to a Salyut station as a pressurized extension, housing research equipment, experiment racks, and a small crew work area. It carried instruments for astronomical observations, spectroscopy, materials processing in microgravity, and life-science studies, as well as facilities for data handling and storage.
The module was developed by the Energia design bureau and integrated with the Salyut program's core station
Operationally, Kvant-1 flew aboard a Salyut station during the late 1970s and early 1980s, supporting multiple
