Kuntka

Kuntka is a river in the fictional nation of Neridia, located in the central highland region known as the Kuntka Basin. It rises in the Kuntka Highlands at an elevation around 2,350 meters, then flows generally southeast for about 176 kilometers, passing through the towns of Verdan and Kuntka City before reaching the Serene Gulf. The river's basin covers roughly 5,900 square kilometers and is characterized by temperate forests and alpine meadows.

Hydrology and ecology: The system is seasonally variable, with an average discharge near 40 cubic meters per second. The upper valley supports brown trout and otter populations, while wetlands near the estuary host migratory birds. The river supports riparian forests with alder and willow.

History and etymology: The name Kuntka derives from the ancient Kun language, where kun means water and tka denotes a path or channel, reflecting the river's role as a migratory route for people and wildlife. The river has long been central to the Kuntkan people, who historically engaged in seasonal fishing and riverine trade.

Economy and infrastructure: The Kuntka Dam, completed in 1983, forms Lake Kuntka and provides substantial hydroelectric capacity. The lower valley is a site for irrigation and small-scale farming, and the river corridor supports tourism and recreational fishing.

Governance and environment: Management falls under the Neridia Environment Authority, with safeguards for fish passage and riparian buffers. Transboundary water talks exist with neighboring regions to coordinate seasonal flows.
