Kunnianhimoa

Kunnianhimoa is the partitive form of kunnianhimo, a Finnish noun meaning ambition or aspiration—the strong desire to achieve success, recognition, or status. Etymologically, it combines kunnia (honor, prestige) and himo (desire, longing).

In usage, kunnianhimoa describes both positive motivation and potential overdrive. The adjective kunnianhimoinen (ambitious) is used for a person who pursues goals with drive; the phrase minulla on kunnianhimoa means I have ambition. Kunnianhimoa functions as the object in sentences such as hänellä on kunnianhimoa or kunnianhimoa ohjaa hänen urakehitystään. The concept can be seen as a productive force for education, career advancement, or creative achievement, but it may also carry negative connotations if it turns into vanity, selfish competition, or neglect of others.
