Krüoteraapiat, also known as cryotherapy, is a medical treatment that involves the use of extreme cold to treat diseased or damaged tissue. It is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in a doctor's office or clinic. The most common application is for dermatological conditions, such as warts, skin tags, and certain precancerous lesions.

The procedure typically involves applying liquid nitrogen to the affected area. Liquid nitrogen is extremely cold, around -196 degrees Celsius (-321 degrees Fahrenheit). This rapid freezing causes the cells in the target tissue to break down and die. As the tissue thaws, it will often blister and then eventually peel away, leaving behind healthier skin.

Beyond dermatology, cryotherapy has also been explored for other medical uses. It can be used in some surgical procedures to freeze and destroy abnormal cells, such as in certain types of cancer. In some cases, it may be used to alleviate pain by numbing nerve endings. There are also emerging applications in sports medicine and wellness, though these are often not directly supervised by medical professionals and have less robust scientific backing.

Potential side effects of cryotherapy are generally mild and temporary. These can include pain, swelling, blistering, and temporary changes in skin color at the treatment site. More serious side effects are rare but can occur.
