Kromipäällysteitä

Kromipäällysteitä, or chromium plating, is a surface finishing process that involves electrodepositing a thin layer of chromium onto a metal substrate. This is typically achieved by immersing the object to be plated into an electrolyte solution containing chromic acid and then passing an electric current through it. The electric current causes chromium ions to be reduced and deposited onto the surface of the object, creating a hard and durable coating.

The primary purpose of chromium plating is to enhance the properties of the underlying material. Chromium coatings offer excellent resistance to corrosion, wear, and abrasion. They also provide a bright, decorative finish that is aesthetically pleasing. Due to these properties, chromium plating is widely used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and decorative applications.

In the automotive industry, chrome plating is often applied to bumpers, wheels, trim, and engine components to improve durability and appearance. In manufacturing, it's used on tools, dies, and machine parts to extend their lifespan and performance. Decorative chrome plating is common on household appliances, furniture, and fixtures.

There are two main types of chromium plating: decorative and hard chrome plating. Decorative plating typically results in a thinner, brighter, and more aesthetically focused finish. Hard chrome plating, on the other hand, produces a thicker, harder, and more wear-resistant layer, primarily for functional purposes. While beneficial, the process involves hazardous chemicals and requires careful handling and waste management.
