Krabbor

Krabbor are decapod crustaceans commonly referred to as crabs in several Scandinavian languages. The term covers a broad group of species with a short, broad carapace and two prominent claws. Krabbor vary in size from small to large and occupy a wide range of habitats, most notably marine coastal zones, estuaries, and coral reefs; some species also occur in brackish water and a few in freshwater.

Anatomy and adaptation: Typical krabbor have five pairs of legs, with the first pair modified into chelae. The carapace is often rounded and the abdomen tucked beneath the thorax. Many crabs are opportunistic feeders, consuming algae, small invertebrates, detritus, and carrion. Some groups are adapted for burrowing, while others are capable swimmers, using their flattened legs to move through water.

Life cycle and reproduction: Krabbor reproduce sexually. Female crabs carry eggs under the abdomen until hatching. The early life stages are planktonic before settling as juvenile crabs.

Ecology and human use: Krabbor are important ecologically as scavengers and prey for larger animals. They are also significant for humans as a food resource, valued by commercial and artisanal fisheries. Conservation concerns for some species include overfishing, habitat degradation, and climate-related impacts.
