Korunky

Korunky is a term found in online collaborative fiction and fan-made ethnographies. In common usage within these communities, korunky refers to two related concepts that appear together in many narratives: a small nocturnal creature and a ceremonial bead or talisman associated with that creature. The creature is typically described as about the size of a domestic cat, with a compact body, short fur, and luminescent markings along its spine and face. It is said to inhabit temperate forests and coastal groves, moving quietly at night and feeding on small invertebrates and fruit. Behaviorally, korunkys are portrayed as curious and shy, with a reputation for leaving bioluminescent traces that some storytellers interpret as messages.

The other widely used meaning of korunky is as a bead or talisman crafted from natural materials such as shell, bone, seeds, or glass. These beads are said to be imbued with the creature’s light and are exchanged as tokens of friendship, luck, or safe passage in imagined rituals.
