Kortagreiðslutæki
Kortagreiðslutæki, often referred to as POS (Point of Sale) terminals or card readers, are electronic devices used to process payments made by credit or debit cards. These devices are a ubiquitous feature in modern retail environments, enabling businesses to accept cashless transactions from customers. When a customer presents a card, the kortagreiðslutæki reads the information from the magnetic stripe, chip, or contactless interface. This data is then transmitted securely to the payment processor, which communicates with the issuing bank to authorize the transaction. If the transaction is approved, the funds are transferred from the customer's account to the merchant's account.
Kortagreiðslutæki come in various forms, from simple countertop devices to portable handheld units and integrated systems.
