Korkeataajuussäteily, often referred to as radio frequency (RF) radiation, encompasses electromagnetic waves with frequencies ranging from about 3 kilohertz to 300 gigahertz. This part of the electromagnetic spectrum is utilized in a wide array of modern technologies. Common sources include radio and television broadcasting, mobile phones, Wi-Fi networks, microwave ovens, radar systems, and various industrial heating processes.

The interaction of RF radiation with matter depends on its frequency and intensity. At lower frequencies, RF energy can induce electrical currents in conductive materials. At higher frequencies, it can be absorbed by materials, leading to heating effects. This heating property is the principle behind microwave ovens.

The potential health effects of RF radiation exposure have been a subject of ongoing scientific research and public discussion. International and national organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), have established guidelines for exposure limits to protect against known adverse health effects, primarily thermal effects. Regulatory bodies in many countries implement these guidelines.

The scientific consensus, based on extensive research, is that exposure to RF radiation below established international limits does not cause adverse health effects. However, research continues to explore potential long-term effects, particularly concerning the increasing prevalence of mobile device usage.
