The word comes from the Finnish adjective “korkeakykyinen,” meaning “high‑ability” or “gifted,” and is commonly used in educational and psychological contexts to describe students or adults who score above a certain threshold on standardized intelligence tests or other aptitude assessments. In Finland, the identification of korkeakykyisiä often occurs during school years, when teachers and psychologists monitor academic achievement and problem‑solving skills that far exceed the normal range.
