Koreografii

Koreografii is the art and practice of designing sequences of movements for dancers and performers. It involves determining the arrangement of bodies in space, timing, dynamics, and the relationship to music, text, and stage elements in order to convey meaning or emotion. A choreographer leads the creative process, frequently collaborating with dancers, musicians, designers, and directors.

Originating from Greek roots chorea (dance) and graphia (writing), the term is used across languages to denote the craft of composing dances and movement-based pieces.

Historically, choreography has roots in ritual dance and courtly entertainment, with later development into codified ballet in 17th–19th-century Europe. The 20th century saw expanding movement vocabularies through modern, contemporary, and postmodern dance, with influential figures such as Marius Petipa, Vaslav Nijinsky, Martha Graham, George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, Pina Bausch, and Billy Forsythe reshaping the form.

Choreography appears in stage works—ballet and contemporary dance—as well as in theatre, film, television, and music videos. It may also be created for community and participatory dance, site-specific pieces, or interactive performances.

Practitioners use notation and analytical systems to document movement, including Laban Movement Analysis and Benesh Movement Notation, and rely on motifs, score-like plans, and iterative rehearsal. Advances in digital tools, motion capture, and algorithmic choreography have broadened the methods for conceiving and rehearsing movement in recent decades.
