Vaslav

Vaslav is a masculine given name of Slavic origin. It is most closely associated with Vaslav Nijinsky, a renowned Russian ballet dancer of the early 20th century.

Vaslav Nijinsky (1889–1950) was a Russian ballet dancer and choreographer who rose to fame with Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Born in Kiev, he became a defining figure of modern ballet, choreographing and performing in The Afternoon of a Faun (1912) and The Rite of Spring (1913). His extraordinary technique and expressive artistry helped transform dance, though his career was later curtailed by severe mental illness; he died in London in 1950.

Today, Vaslav remains a relatively rare given name outside historical references, with Nijinsky as the principal association. The name is sometimes encountered in transliteration variants across Slavic languages, but its most enduring public recognition comes from the dancer Vaslav Nijinsky.
