Kooperasyon

Kooperasyon is a term used in Turkish and several other languages to denote the process of working together toward common goals. It encompasses activities among individuals, organizations, and governments, and occurs in various contexts such as economic development, science, and international relations. Effective kooperasyon typically involves shared objectives, coordinated resources, and clearly defined responsibilities.

Etymologically, kooperasyon derives from the European word cooperation, borrowed into Turkish as kooperasyon. In Turkish, işbirliği is a general synonym for collaboration, while kooperasyon often conveys more formal, structured, or institutional cooperation, including agreements, partnerships, and joint ventures. The term appears in other Turkic languages with similar meanings.

Cooperation can be bilateral or multilateral, public or private, and is implemented through contracts, memoranda of understanding, joint ventures, research consortia, or policy dialogues. It may involve sharing knowledge, technology, capital, or regulatory alignment to pursue mutual interests or address shared challenges.
